August 22, 2026, Saturday:  Plant Auction - Hostas and Companion Perennials - 10:00AM

Location: Illinois Central College Land Laboratory Parking Lot G, Horticulture Department Building, East Peoria, Il    IN CASE OF RAIN: Event will be held on Sunday, August 23 at 2:00PM.

Club members will donate for auction hostas, companion plants and garden art. The public is invited to attend. All sales final. Only cash or checks will be accepted. No Credit Cards.  Checks should be made out to CIHS. 

Come early to register, obtain an auction number card and view the plants and items for auction. In the past we have held this every other year event on our August Tuesday meeting evening. We are moving this event to Saturday morning to attract more people from the community. Tell your friends! Some unique or hard to find hostas will be available. 

On Saturday August 22nd - Bidder registration starts at 8:30AM.  Auction starts promptly at

10:00 AM. 

Auction continues until all items are gone.  Payment due after bidding ends or earlier if leaving before the end.

We plan on setting up on the North side of the classroom building in the grassy area.  Bring a folding chair for yourself.

 Guidelines For Members Who Are Donating Auction Items: 

Hosta’s -  (known name hosta only with plant marker if possible).

Named companion perennials  (with marker).

Garden art, garden markers, gardening books or garden related items.

Donation drop-off times:

Thursday August 20 - 3:30pm - 6:00pm at the Horticultural building at ICC

Friday August 21 - 8:00am - 11:00 am at the Horticultural building at ICC

Saturday August 22nd - 8:30am - 9:30 am.  

After 9:30am we won’t have enough time and cannot accept donations.

Donors are encouraged to drop off items on Thursday or Friday instead of Saturday.  Late items donated on Saturday may not be registered in time.

September 15, 2026, Annual Banquet - LAST EVENT OF 2026 - The Public is welcome to attend with paid reservation .

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

When: September 23, 2026  Wednesday 9:00am - 11:00am

Where: Illinois Central College Land Laboratory (Arboretum and Gardens) pond

CIHS is not only an organization that educates gardeners about hostas but also gives back to the area community. Monetary donations are made yearly to area public gardens and sometimes through a grant process for other organizations. Other ways to give can include our time.

ICC could use your help to replace the pond liner at the small Lilly pond at the East Peoria Land Laboratory. The pond liner is at the end of its life and needs to be replaced. This project requires volunteers to help remove the flagstones surrounding the perimeter of the pond and set them aside. Next volunteers will remove the existing liner and underlayment materials then help position the new underlayment and liner. ICC management will cut the new liner to size. Once the liner is installed volunteers will place the flagstones around the perimeter again for a natural look.
